Saint Lucia is an island nation in the Caribbean known for its volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, dense rainforests, fishing villages, lush scenery, luxurious resorts, tropical weather, hidden golden beaches, crystal-clear waters, its unique drive-in volcano, and “the Pitons”, which are two striking peaks and one of the many scenic highlights not only of Saint Lucia, but of the whole Caribbean Region. Saint Lucia is often a less popular destination among its neighbours due to its more remote location. However, this tiny country possesses unbeatable natural wonders and cultural legacy like no other!
The climate in Saint Lucia is tropical and hence experiences rain at times, especially from June until November. September and October are the most humid months and December and January are the coolest months. Year-round temperatures range from 21°C to 23°C.
Saint Lucian cuisine is a combination of West African, French and British dishes and it also involves a lot of fruits, vegetables and fish. Famous dishes include green banana and salt fish (considered the national dish), breadfruit and salt fish and bouyon, which is cooked with fish, chicken, meat, bananas, yams, dumplings and sometimes coconut water. Other typical meals include stew chicken, rice and peas, soups packed with locally produced vegetables, curry and more. Moreover, it is traditional in Saint Lucia to drink a glass of fresh coconut water or a glass of water after meals.
Saint Lucia is extremely small and easy to get around. In general, you can take a taxi to almost anywhere on the island and prices are generally fixed.
Another fun option are water taxis. They are the quickest way to get around, not to mention the most picturesque! The rates, however, can be quite high, but usually you will be able to negotiate them.
For those on a budget, local buses are also an option and quite a fun experience! Usually, buses are decorated inside and play fun Caribbean music!
